AI Card Grader

Know before you grade. Check your card's centering, estimate its PSA grade range, and run the grading math — before you spend $20–$80 a card on fees that PSA's 14-million-card backlog just made more expensive.

Updated August 2026

Why pre-grade now: the fee math changed

In June 2026 PSA paused its $24.99 Value Bulk and $32.99 Value tiers, citing a backlog of roughly 14 million cards. For most collectors that leaves the $79.99 Regular tier — or a switch to CGC (bulk from about $12/card) or SGC (from about $25/card).

At $79.99 a card, submitting a borderline card is no longer a coin flip you can shrug off. A card that comes back PSA 8 instead of PSA 10 often loses money after fees. Pre-grading exists to catch those cards before the invoice does.

Rule of thumb: if your card's PSA 10 comp is under ~3× the grading fee, or your centering is worse than 60/40, run the calculator before you submit. See current fees on the 2026 grading cost table.

What AI grading can — and can't — see

We build honesty into the product, because a wrong "10" costs you real money:

  • Centering — excellent. It's a geometric measurement. A photo is all you need, and our centering tool measures it exactly.
  • Corners & edges — good. Whitening, dings and chipping are visible in sharp, well-lit photos.
  • Surface — limited. Print lines, holo scratches and dimples often only show under angled light. Professional graders tilt the card; a single photo physically can't capture everything. That's why our AI reports a range with confidence, never a guaranteed grade.
  • Authentication — no. Trimming and fakes need professional equipment. AI pre-grading never replaces PSA, BGS, CGC, SGC or TAG — it tells you which cards deserve them.

FAQ

How accurate is AI card grading?
Independent tests and vendor benchmarks put AI pre-grading within one grade of the final PSA result roughly 70–85% of the time. Accuracy is highest on centering and corners, lowest on surface. Treat any single-number "AI grade" with suspicion — ranges are honest, points are marketing.
Is this free?
The centering tool and worth-grading calculator are free forever and run entirely in your browser — your photos never leave your device. AI grade estimates are free while in beta.
Can AI grading replace PSA or Beckett?
No, and anyone claiming otherwise is selling you something. The slab, the authentication and the market trust only come from professional graders. AI answers the earlier question: which cards are worth submitting. Compare graders on our best grading companies page.
What centering does a PSA 10 need?
Approximately 55/45 or better on the front (75/25 on the back). PSA 9 allows roughly 60/40. Measure yours in about 30 seconds with the centering tool.

Front photo required, back optional (improves accuracy — front weighs 70%). Shoot square-on, good light, no sleeve or slab. Analysis takes ~20–40 seconds.

Estimates only — AI typically lands within ±1 of the professional grade and cannot fully judge surface defects from photos. Never a substitute for PSA/BGS/CGC.
